KULUMI

Behind
"KULUMI"

The name “KULUMI” was derived from two words:
“n’kulu n’kulu” meaning “great” in Zulu and “lumen” meaning “light”.

Together, they mean “The Great Light.”

Who we are

The KULUMI came into concept when a group of engineers see the need for safe lighting of the people in rural areas, as many of them still use oil lanterns. They wanted to be able to help, and they decided to do it the best way they know how: through technology.

Through years of research and development, the first prototype was made. The idea to use solar panels was to enable the product to still work even in places without access to electricity. The products were designed to also withstand extreme circumstances.

We are constantly looking for ways to be able to improve and develop more products as we want to be able to meet more needs of these families.
